The story of Little Manitou Art Gallery began when Sarah, her son, and Clayton moved to Manitou Beach in 2012. The property at 204 Elizabeth Ave. was purchased because of the location – only 2 blocks from the main beach and central to many popular attractions – and most exciting was a cindercrete block building that could be set up as Sarah’s bronze foundry, while the attached garage could be converted into Clayton’s studio. From those meager beginnings, they have steadily developed the property and business.
It didn’t take long to realize that people were curious and wanted to visit. The “Little Gallery” was built to display finished pieces but that brought even more interest and they soon figured out they couldn’t keep up! They asked 3 friends to help; to place artwork for sale by commission. The network of artists grew and continues to expand… additional display buildings have been built to include more artwork.
Little Manitou Art Gallery has developed into a three-way-win. Artists have a retail outlet in a tourist destination to share their creations. Little Manitou Art Gallery has something new and interesting to share every day. And visitors find an amazing variety of artwork – by so many artists – all displayed in one unique and welcoming place.
Drop by for a visit next time you’re at the beach and be sure to say “Hi!” to Sarah and maybe meet a visiting artist or two!

About Sarah McKen
Sarah McKen is one of the few women who cast her own bronze sculpture. She trained at the University of Saskatchewan with mentor and dear friend – Professor William Epp. After University, Sarah attended a year residency at the Epp Foundry in Martensville to continue her foundry training. Sarah enjoyed the challenge of creating bronze sculpture; it is an elaborate process with multiple steps.
Although she is no longer casting bronze and the foundry is not operational, the “Little Gallery” is now filled to the brim with a variety of work by many artists.

“We stumbled across this place while taking a walk during our stay at the lake. Amazing. It was a very cute place with so much to offer. We sat in their garden, had tea, and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Sarah, the owner was so sweet. Our baby fell asleep in their garden and she put up signs for other guests to please be quiet. Our baby had the most relaxing nap of his life. I would give a 20 star review if I could.”
“Quirky and whimsical gardens, decor, and buildings displaying all manner of (mostly) locally made works of art for sale, from clothing and jewelry, to pottery, wood carvings, and paintings, plus everything in between.”
“Amazing space with so much unique work from across Saskatchewan. Ended up coming back at night for some live music and drinks. What a great time!”
“A truly unique way to spend half an hour or more. Little Manitou Art Gallery is part art exhibit, part shopping mall, part sculpture garden, and part artist showcase. Depending on the time and day, there may be artists working on projects. There are a huge variety of items available for sale. Refreshments are also advertised as available (tip: Manitou Mini-Mart serves great ice cream, and it's just a few steps away!).”
“Nothing less than a hidden gem. Spectacular collection of hand crafted jewellery and artefacts. All at a very reasonable price. The lady managing the place, probably also the owner, was extremely courteous and helpful. She also gave helpful advice about the beach, surrounding restaurants and things to do. A must place to visit.”
“Beautiful spot - Manitou Beach is a much more interesting place than most small lakeside villages and this art gallery is a great example of why that is! Friendly people and quality art from local artists and craftsmen/artisans. Honestly I just wanted to even sit and have a coffee at one of the tables among the trees in a quiet corner of this gallery. I look forward to visiting again and I'd definitely recommend stopping by when you're in town, support local artists!”
“Great variety of creative art, with ambience, personality, and kindness.”

“So very unique and different in all the good ways. So glad we stopped as we were just through the lake township. The ladies working were very pleasant, the flower gardens were stunning and plenty of little buildings for the art showcases to look through.”

“Dropped in to stroll the gardens and were thoroughly impressed with the broad variety of art, jewelry and custom clothing (over 100 artists represented here) at very reasonable prices. Beautiful, affordable art work presented in a wonderfully appealing way. There's even the opportunity to order custom baked bread! Worth spending some time here.”
